Synopsis
“Drop Dad” follows April, a young Korean American woman living with her father Joe, an overworked immigrant locksmith who refuses to treat his worsening diabetes. After years of silence, avoidance, and strained caregiving, April watches Joe deteriorate while prioritizing work over his health. A series of small eruptions reveal the emotional distance between them and the unspoken burden she carries as a second generation daughter. When Joe collapses in their apartment and dies from complications he denied until the end, April is left alone to clean the space he inhabited, settle what he left unresolved, and confront the reality of his choices. As she discovers hidden cash meant for her and receives an unexpected call from a neighbor he quietly helped, April begins to understand the complicated love behind his actions. The film examines immigrant survival, chronic illness, generational tension, and the quiet moments that shape a family’s legacy.
